1 Nov 2019 and 2 Nov 2019 – Community Service Opportunity. The Royal Canadian Legion in Sarnia has asked for our assistance during their Poppy Pinning Campaign. We have 3 coordinators for this event, according to the shift you wish to sign up for.

Shift 1 – 1 Nov 2019 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm: email the Commanding Officer, Captain Mainville to express your intention to attend.

Shift 2 – 2 Nov 2019 from 9:30am to 12:00pm: email the Training Officer, Lieutenant Card to express you intention to attend.

Shift 3 – 2 Nov 2019 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm: email the Supply Officer, Officer Cadet Lafferty to express you intention to attend.

This not only gives you community service hours towards your secondary school graduation, it aligns directly with our program goals to promote good citizenship. Meet at the Sarnia Legion. Dress for this event is C3. Don’t forget your Poppies!!

1 to 3 Nov 2019 – Regional Orienteering Competition in Ottawa. Representatives from our squadron, and Capt Shand will be going to Ottawa to participate in this competition made up of cadets from all over the province. Participants are to meet at the Squadron Building on Friday, 1 Nov 2019 by 7:00am. Bring sufficient civilian clothing and toiletries for 2 nights. Cadets should be returning to Sarnia in the late afternoon/early evening on Sunday, 3 Nov 2019. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!

3 Nov 2019 – Remembrance Day Parade in Point Edward. This is a MANDATORY activity: those unable to attend must email the Commanding Officer, Captain Mainville. Meet at the Point Edward Ex-Serviceman’s Association by 10:30am. The parade should end by 12:00pm. Dress will be C1 (C1A with white belt and lanyard). Don’t forget your Poppies!!

3 Nov 2019 – Remembrance Day Parade in Petrolia. The event will run from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Only 2 cadets are required to participate as we are only being asked to perform cenotaph duty. Contact Lieutenant Card for more information and to volunteer. Meet at the Petrolia Legion. Dress will be C1 (C1A with white belt and lanyard). Don’t forget your Poppies!!

Next Tuesday, 5 Nov 2019, will be our second Commanding Officer’s (CO’s) Parade of the year. Dress will be C1 (C1A with white belt and lanyard). The CO’s Parade starts at 6:50pm: parents are encouraged to attend. Don’t forget your Poppies!!

Things to note and plan for later in the month:

9 Nov 2019 – Dave Salmons Recognition Night. This is an informal “meet and greet” opportunity to meet the family of Dave Salmons, a former 44 Squadron Air Cadet and Canadian Armed Forces pilot who died while on duty. One of our annual awards, the Salmons Sword, is named in his honour. Cadets, their families, and friends are invited to drop in, even for 15 minutes. It is being held at the Moose Lodge, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Dress is C3. Don’t forget your Poppies!! More information to follow.

10 Nov 2019 – Veterans Way Tribute at the Sarnia Sting hockey game being held at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena (Lambton College). The event will run from 3:00pm to 4:15pm. Only 2 cadets are required to participate. Dress will be C1 (C1A with white belt and lanyard). Don’t forget your Poppies!! More information to follow.

10-11 Nov 2019 – Sarnia Legion Candlelight Vigil. The whole squadron is requested to attend the opening ceremony from 6:00pm until 7:00pm. Meet at the Sarnia Legion. Following that, a select group of cadets (approximately 9) will spend the night at the Legion, taking turns standing at the cenotaph in front of the Legion. Dress will be C1 (C1A with white belt and lanyard). Don’t forget your Poppies!! More information to follow.

11 Nov 2019 – Remembrance Day Parade in Sarnia. This is a MANDATORY activity, however, it is a school day. Please strongly consider missing school that morning in order to participate in this important community event. Meet at the Sarnia Legion by 10:30am. The parade should end by 12:30pm. Dress will be C1 (C1A with white belt and lanyard). Don’t forget your Poppies!! More information to follow.
