Announcements – 15 Oct 2019

Capt MainvilleAnnouncements

For our routine, optional training programs (band, drill team, marksmanship) details on sessions are posted in the events calendar.

Wednesday, 16 Oct 2019 – A community service opportunity was made available to our cadets, and we did not disappoint! Thank you to our members who volunteered to help set up for an upcoming rummage sale being held at Central United Church. Volunteers are asked to enter the back doors, located just off of the church parking lot by 4:30pm. Dress in comfortable civilian clothing suitable for moving and setting up tables. The event should be completed by 5:30pm. Volunteers will be rewarded with pizza in addition to earning 1 hour of community service time (for high school students).

Friday, 18 Oct 2019 to Sunday, 20 Oct 2019 – The time has, finally, come for our Fall Field Training Exercise!! We’ll be going to Peacekeeper Park to have some excellent training and experiences! Please email the Commanding Officer, Captain Mainville, if you can’t attend. Permission forms and Kit Lists were handed out. Please ensure you bring the permission forms with you on Friday. All Cadets should arrive at the Squadron Building at 5:00pm on Friday. Have all of your required kit (and your HEALTH CARD). Cadets are encouraged to bring their own camping tents, so they may have a an opportunity to sleep outdoors. We will have use of some indoor sleeping space, as well. Tent set-up on Friday may be in low light conditions (sun has to go down sometime), so ensure you have a bright light source (powerful flashlight, lantern, etc). We should be returning to the Squadron Building on Sunday by 5:00pm.

Next Tuesday, 22 Oct 2019 will be our first Recreational Physical Fitness session. We will NOT be at the Squadron Building. Cadets are to be dropped off and picked up at Gregory Hogan Catholic School. Start and end times are as per normal Tuesday nights (6:30pm to 9:00pm). Dress in clothing appropriate for physical fitness activities in a school gym.

Things to note and plan for later in the month:

24 Oct 2019, 25 Oct 2019, and 26 Oct 2019 – our Fall Tagging Fundraiser. The money raised from fundraiser this pay for the more recreational activities and events we conduct (among other things). It is MANDATORY for all cadets to participate. Email the Squadron Sponsoring Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Gibson, if you can’t attend, otherwise, you are expected to participate. Dress for this event is C3. Mrs. Gibson has already started filling in many of the shifts so, if you want a shift that works with your schedule, reach out to her sooner, rather than later. Shift times are indicated in the events calendar. Parents are welcome to help out by volunteering to drive groups of cadets to and/or from their tagging locations. Contact Mrs. Gibson to express your interest.

25 Oct 2019 and 26 Oct 2019 – Community Service Opportunity. The Royal Canadian Legion in Petrolia has asked for our assistance during their Poppy Pinning Campaign. Our Training Officer, Lieutenant Card, is the coordinator for this. This not only gives you community service hours towards your secondary school graduation, it aligns directly with our program goals to promote good citizenship. A Sign-up sheet is posted at our squadron building. NOTE: participation in this event does not exclude a cadet from participating in the Fall Tagging Fundraiser. A shuttle service to and from our Squadron Building and the Royal Canadian Legion in Petrolia will be provided. Dress for this event is C3.

26 Oct 2019 – Marksmanship Competition in Sarnia. Once our competitive Marksmanship Team has been formed, they will have an opportunity to participate in this local competition, which include teams from other Sea, Army, and Air Cadet units in the surrounding area. NOTE: participation in this event does not exclude a cadet from participating in the Fall Tagging Fundraiser (i.e., plan to sign up for the 24 and 25 Oct Tagging sessions). More information to follow.

1 Nov 2019 – Regional Orienteering Competition in Ottawa. Our female Orienteering Team won the silver medal at the Zone Orienteering Competition last month (CONGRATULATIONS!!!). This means they will be representing our Zone, Squadron, families, and selves in the Regional Competition. More information to follow.
